Let’s take a little detour, shall we?
Recently, I spent a week camping on a friend’s farm in Yatte Yattah (yes, that is a real place, and yes, it is as glorious as it sounds). Years ago, these friends transformed their old dairy farm into regenerated rainforest—with towering canopies, damp leaf litter, and the occasional wallaby cameo. But in 2019, fire swept through and turned their rainforest dreams to ash.
Devastating? Absolutely.
The end of the story? Not even close.
They began again. But this time, they dug deeper—literally. Their mission? To rebuild from the ground up using a secret weapon that has been quietly running the underground world for millennia: fungus.
Not just any fungus—Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (or as I like to call them, Nature’s Wi-Fi). These microscopic wonders form sprawling networks under the soil—fine, silky threads that connect plants and trees across entire ecosystems. And here is the kicker: they don’t just connect things for fun—they enable communication. Yes, tree-to-tree, paddock-to-paddock chatting. If one tree is low on nutrients, another with excess can send help. It’s like a botanical Bill & Ted moment: an excellent adventure in resource-sharing via the fungal NBN.
And that got me thinking…
Fungi… but make it unplexi™
At unplex, we help organisations build systems that behave exactly like that fungi.
You see, most health and social care organisations are still operating on a “silo model” of service delivery. One team here, another over there, healthcare professional A talking a different language to professional B, funding models doing their own thing, and no real infrastructure to share insights, needs, or capacity across the network. It is all very… dial-up modem.
But when you’re working with diverse client needs, dispersed teams, and limited resources, you cannot afford to be disconnected. You need fungi logic.
That’s where unplexi™ comes in.
We’ve designed unplexi™ to act like those silky fungal threads—subtle but mighty. It tracks real-time changes in client needs, surfaces gaps, and connects the dots between services, staff, locations and outcomes. It doesn’t just collect data. It actively helps move insight and support to where it’s needed most.
The unplexi™ fungi effect in action:
- 🌱 Dynamic care decisions: unplexi™ uses real-time data to spot where needs are rising, then makes recommendations where reallocation of resources may need to be considered.
- 🧠 Workforce intelligence: unplexi™ identifies where skills are needed to deliver high quality care and support.
- 🌍 Organisational-wide visibility: unplexi™ provides insight into client needs across different parts of your organisation, helping you to understand and (fungi-like) re-direct resources from nourished to undernourished areas.
- 🤝 Needs-responsive models: unplexi™ enables you to redesign your services based on actual client needs—not just historical assumptions or funding rules.
So, if your organisation is still relying on post-it notes and vague vibes to respond to client needs, maybe it’s time to ask:
What does the fungi look like in your organisation?
If the answer is “um, we’re more dried-up moss than magical mushroom network,” never fear—we have got tendrils.
Let unplexi™ be the fungal fibre-optic you didn’t know you needed. We will help you build a ‘living’ system that is monitoring your clients, your staff, and the ever-shifting ecosystem of care.
Yours in spore-powered service design,
The team at unplex
